Where we work in California
Los Angeles
Los Angeles has more than 800 high-rise buildings and a hot semi-arid climate with near year-round sun exposure, which accelerates UV wear and dust buildup on facades, windows, and roofs.
San Francisco Bay Area
San Francisco's Financial District and SoMa concentrate a dense high-rise office stock, home to major technology employers, in a coastal climate where fog and marine moisture accelerate exterior wear.
San Diego
San Diego's growth as a biotechnology and life-sciences hub has driven new commercial building stock, while its coastal marine layer and salt air create persistent corrosion and staining exposure on facades.
Sacramento
As the state capital, Sacramento's downtown holds a concentration of state government office buildings, and its hot Mediterranean climate averages 76 days a year at 90 degrees or higher, driving heavy dust and UV exposure on exteriors.
Season and scheduling
National Weather Service data for 1971-2000 shows Los Angeles with no measurable freeze probability date and 365 frost-free days a year, so exterior cleaning work is not constrained by a winter freeze season.
Water-based washing pauses in freezing weather, and recurring clients are booked at the start of the window.
How we operate in California
These are the rules that shape a job here; we plan around them at the survey, not on site.
California Civil Code Section 1708.8 creates civil liability for physical or constructive invasion of privacy, including capturing images by drone through trespass onto private property or airspace, with damages up to three times actual losses.
California has not enacted a law preempting local drone ordinances. A 2013-2014 bill, AB 1327, which would have limited law-enforcement drone use, was vetoed in 2014 and had explicitly preserved local authority to adopt more restrictive drone policies.
Because California has no statewide preemption of drone regulation, cities and counties set their own rules on where drones may take off, land, or operate, creating a patchwork that operators must check jurisdiction by jurisdiction.
Los Angeles: Los Angeles Municipal Code Section 63.44.B.8 prohibits landing, releasing, taking off, or flying drones in city Recreation and Parks areas unless the area is specifically designated for that use or the city authorizes it.
Los Angeles: Los Angeles Municipal Code Section 56.31, added in 2015 and effective 2016, sets local line-of-sight, daylight-operation, altitude, airport-notification, and careless-or-reckless-operation standards for drones citywide.
San Francisco: San Francisco Park Code Section 3.09 bars launching or landing any aircraft, including drones, in city parks such as Golden Gate Park and Dolores Park without a Recreation and Park Department permit.
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) sits under Class B airspace, the FAA's most restricted class, so drone flights nearby require prior authorization. LAANC gives near real-time authorization for Class B, C, D, and surface E airspace at participating facilities nationwide.
California's Contractors State License Board requires a specialty licence for most paid pressure-washing and exterior-cleaning work. Since January 1, 2025, unlicensed work is exempt only when the whole project, labour and materials, is under $1,000, needs no permit and hires no workers.
Under the federal Clean Water Act and the State Water Resources Control Board's NPDES permit program, wash water containing detergents, oils, or other contaminants may not be discharged to a storm drain, gutter, or waterway, and violators face civil penalties.
San Francisco's Building Facade Inspection and Maintenance Ordinance requires buildings five or more stories tall to undergo a comprehensive facade inspection by a California-licensed architect or engineer, resubmitted every 10 years, with added checks for buildings 15 or more stories.
Building stock
Los Angeles has more than 800 high-rise buildings in total and 88 buildings taller than 100 meters, giving it the largest skyline in California and on the West Coast.
San Francisco has 100 buildings taller than 100 meters, including 27 above 492 feet and Salesforce Tower at 1,070 feet, the tallest building in the city.
